Nazi Germany's Role in the Dissolution of Czechoslovakia
Background
In 1938, Nazi Germany annexed the Sudetenland region of Czechoslovakia, which had a large German-speaking population. This act, known as the Munich Agreement, was a major turning point in the lead-up to World War II.
Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia
In March 1939, the remaining territory of Czechoslovakia was occupied by Nazi Germany and became the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. This effectively ended Czechoslovakia's independence.
Division of Czechoslovakia
On January 1, 1993, Czechoslovakia officially dissolved and split into two separate states: the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
Outbreak of World War II
In September 1939, Hitler invaded Poland, marking the beginning of World War II. The war lasted until 1945 and resulted in the deaths of millions of people.
